Cattleya Howard's Delight (C. Interglossa fma. coerulea 'Purple Tower' BM/JOGA x Lc. Elegans fma. coerulea 'Leviathan'5262)

Awarded in Japan ‘Purple Tower’ was offered for sale by Suwada orchids, I had to get it. Six months and a hefty importation cost later, it was mine! It bloomed in the middle of August with 13 flowers coerulea and blue spotted flowers, it was spectacular. The Lc. Elegans (C. tigrina x L. purpurata) have impressive large flowers over 6” across, although only a few small spots are visible on ‘Leviathan’ you know there are recessive spotted flower gene of the tigrina in there. We know from our years of experience this type of breeding brings out spots in the progeny, we are expecting big 5” or better flower 6-9 per inflorescence in coerulea and darker blue spots, slate blue lips on robust plants standing 16” tall, these will be impressive when mature. And, the these are treated protocorms with oryzalin (t), increasing the chances that some of these will be tetraploid.
